Sardines is a must have in every Filipino household. Why not when it is economical, delicious and very versatile. The sender of this recipe craved for pizza and at the same time received so many packed sardines as “ayuda” or relief goods given by the government to the people due to any calamity such as the pandemic we are currently experiencing.
1 can of tomato-based sardines, drained, sauce set aside
1 tbsp Minced Garlic
1 tbsp Chopped Onion
1/2 cup CheeseDried basil (optional)
Parmesan cheese (optional)
Bread buns, halved lengthwise
Preheat oven at 150°C.Mash sardines, set aside. In a separate bowl, mix the sardine sauce with garlic, onion, spices. Brush top of bread with olive oil. Spread sauce on top of bread, then scoop 2 tsp of mashed sardines and put on top of the sauce. Generously top with grated cheese.Bake until cheese melts/turns light brown.
Makes 6-8 half buns.
